About the Council of Europe Traineeship

The Council of Europe Traineeship Programme provides young professionals with hands-on experience in various departments of the organization. Selected trainees will work in areas such as human rights, democracy, governance, legal affairs, communications, research, information technology, education, and social inclusion. Most traineeships are based in Strasbourg, France, while some opportunities are available in Brussels, Belgium, and Geneva, Switzerland.

Eligibility Criteria

Applicants must:

  • Be at least 18 years old
  • Have completed a minimum of three years of university studies
  • Hold a Bachelor’s degree or equivalent qualification
  • Have a very good knowledge of English or French
  • Be a citizen of a Council of Europe member state
  • Not have previously completed a Council of Europe traineeship, study visit, or employment with the organization
  • Not be an immediate family member of a current staff member of the Council of Europe
